"You Have to Hide so They Can't See You."

The kiddos mentioned they had a lock down drill today. We started talking about it and Aaron mentioned that he was scared because they had to sit in the dark.

My baby. Scared. In the dark.

Jill chimed in next and said that you have to be really quiet so nobody can hear you. She also said you had to hide so they can't find you. Then she demonstrated how you hide.

I had to leave the room.

My babies, hiding in the dark. What kind of sick world do we live in?

To make the kiddos feel better and make lock down drills seem more normal, Scott and I told them how we do lock down drills at work, too. Scott told the kids how he is the one that keeps everyone safe and I told them how I have to hide, just like them.

When I was a kid, we never had to have those conversations. The only drills we had were fire and tornado. We didn't have to worry about someone coming in and having to hide from them.

Parenting was already hard....now it's just surreal.
