Right, but we didn't make the mistake

Yesterday I spent a good chunk of my afternoon on the phone with Orlando Health trying to straighten out the medical bills from November. Here's my thing, I don't feel like I should have to do this, you know what I mean? I shouldn't have to question every charge on a bill when it comes to me, I should be able to trust that this "not for profit" hospital billed me and my insurance company correctly. But somehow, that's not how it works and what makes me somewhat laugh is that they don't try to pull $20 past you they tried to get over $500 past me. Before it was over $1,000 that they tried to squeak by me. Do you really think I wouldn't notice that?!

The woman, funnily enough named Charity (swear to God!), from the billing department tried to keep telling me that Orlando Health did not make a mistake, everything is right in their system, my insurance company is wrong. Yeah, ok, who sent the info over to the insurance company? Right. So after Charity comments on how sweet my kids sound in the background (don't try to be friendly, seriously not the time) we get on the phone with my insurance company. I had tears of joy at this point because the insurance lady basically said "well this is how it was sent to us so this is how it got billed" and Charity replies "Oh no that's not how we have it YOU must have made the mistake" and so on and so forth for like 15 minutes. Finally everything got straightened out and I waiting on the actual bills, because apparently all of these "letters" that I have received in the mail are not bills, they just happen to have the information on how to pay the non bill on the back of it. Right.

*Eye roll*

Hope you're having a great Friday!

I listened to a story about the crazy health system we have the other day on NPR. Because the billing and claims are so complicated medical practitioners now outsource their claims and billing to consultants that specializes in filing claims etc.

Good for you on questioning them, because many people don't and end up paying a lot more than they should.

I hate dealing with insurance companies! I have had to fight many a times with the hospital about why they did not file this with our insurance. Sometimes they tell me I do not have insurance (when I am holding the card in my hand) People I tell ya. I am glad you got it all worked out and do not owe that $1000.

Oh, i hate dealing with that stuff. I have something similar, too. They are saying my deductible isn't met, but then telling me amounts that are higher than it. I don't get it.

Glad you got it worked out.
