Watch out Ace of Cakes...

I have always wanted to learn how to decorate cakes, you know more than just some frosting and sprinkles. Lucky for me Whole Foods was hosting a cake decorating class today so my dear friend Dawn and I decided we would go and get out piping on. Am I a geek or what?

There were about 12 of us in the class so it was nice and small. Our instructor is one of the bakers at that Whole Foods and has been a pastry chef for 8 years. We learned some basics of piping/decorating cakes. We each had 3 different bags filled with buttercream, one had a flower tip, leaf tip, ribbon tip and then we shared a round tip bag.

The first thing we learned to make was a shell border. Ok seriously I don't think what we made looked like a shell but I digress. We then learned how to make a leaf, which Dawn is an expert at making. Then we got into the bead border which I am awesome at and will be using from this day forth. The final lesson was how to make a rose. Here's mine:

Not to shabby for a first timer, huh? After we learned how to make everything we got to decorate our cupcakes. Here's mine:

It totally did not survive the drive home. No I did not eat it (not a fan), rather it took a nose dive onto the floor of my husbands car. Yeah, they didn't have containers with lids, so there ya go.

The class was super fun though, and lunch after with Dawn was even better!

That sounds like such fun! I can do some basic cake decorating, and I'm sure it will continue to come in handy having two kiddos. :)
