Because in the Big Rock Candy Mountains you never have to change your socks....

Everyone has that childrens song that sounds like nails on a chalkboard to them, mine is Big Rock Candy Mountain. I haven't always had such hatred for this song, but lately it seems to be popping up everywhere and permanently ingraining itself in my brain.

My dislike started many years ago when my niece Lorren would watch this DVD all the time....

I mean all the time, like several times a day until it had to be taken back to wherever it was rented from. Knowing my dislike of this DVD Lorren and my sister Cathy decided to send the kiddos this DVD, they love it, naturally. One morning we watched it, at 6am. Yeah, 6am. I was singing about the buzzin' of the bees in the peppermint trees until my head hit the pillow that night.

The song also appears in one of my favorite movies, "O Brother Where Art Thou?":

The version of the song used in the movie also appears in the new LL Bean commercial:

It was also in this weeks episode of Mad Men, it was playing in the background during baby Gene's birthday party. I wanted to slam my head into the wall when I heard it. It would have only been worse had the LL Bean commercial played after that scene. Thank God for DVR.

This song is also on the kids playlist on my iPod at least 4-5 times. No matter how many times I hit shuffle they all will play within minutes of each other. The song doesn't go away.

Then I get text messages or Facebook posts from Lorren or Cathy with something like "In the big rock candy mountains you never have to change you socks".

I seriously sing this song in my head all day everyday. I can only hope that one day I can pass this on to the kids and they too will dislike this song as much as I do. What song does this to you?

Don't forget to check out my review blog! I have two giveaways going on and a recipe contest that ends this week!

I'm glad to now understand the background here...I'd seen you mention your dislike for this song a time or two already. :)

I'd never actually heard this song until I ordered a particular children's CD for the girls, shortly after they were born. And I actually kinda like it. :)

But I completely understand having a song stuck in your head. I swear I had Row, Row, Row Your Boat in my head for years (it feels like literally) when I was growing up. I almost thought I was going crazy!

And I don't mean to laugh at you...I'm trying to laugh with you, or at least with your sisters when I say...that's so funny that they make random references to the song! HA!
