Cleaning out the Closets

I started a little project several months ago to force myself to purge my closet every 6 months. I don't know about you, but I am awful at purging my closet and find myself with clothes that I've had for years and year and years.

I decided that what I would do is turn all of my hangers around (which by the way can be a pain in the behind when you're putting clothes away) and then every time I would put clothes away, I would hang them the right way. This then forces you to see what clothes you wear all the time and which you really never wear. Yup, I'm talking about you Brad Paisley concert shirt from 2007.

When the 6 months were over I went through my closet and purged the clothes that were still hanging backwards on their hangers. Yes, including the Brad Paisley shirt because let's be honest, I will never fit into it again.

Now it's time to start the process all over again and I have to say, it felt good to purge some of those clothes. Do you have any tips for purging your clothes?

That's a great system to really be honest about what you wear!

I have no tips, sadly, but I will share some lamentations. ;)

My biggest challenge is that I have a closet 2/3 full of work clothes...and I haven't worked in four years.

I've weeded out some work clothes...those that date back to college interviews and *might* have rather large shoulder pads...but most of the things I'm hanging onto to see what I'll wear in another 18 months (GASP!!!) when I start back to work.

A very clever idea. Its just that my closet is so full!
