Our Mini Vacation

We were in desperate need of a mini vacation and this weekend definitely gave us that opportunity. Scott, the kiddos and I went down to visit our friends in Sarasota, but before that, I met up with Michelle for a free 5k.

Yeah, you read that right, FREE 5k.  Every weekend this organization puts on a free 5k, all you have to do is volunteer 3 times a year. Isn't that amazing? We finished with a time of 45:35, which wasn't too shabby, especially considering neither of us were exactly feeling that run.

After I came home we finished packing and hit the road for Sarasota. The first thing we did was hang out at the marina. The kids were able to play in the park and then we walked along the water to check out the boats.

Seriously, how adorable is that photo? I love when they hold hands!

At the end of the path there was a small patch of beach, so we were able to check out the shells and dip our toes in the water.

The kids wanted to full on dive into the water and it was a struggle to keep them dry.

On Sunday we went to Lido Key (where Bob and Vanessa were married last year) and spent the day splashing, building castles and digging up shells. I spent some time in the tent because, well, I'm super white and burn easily. Thankfully, I did not burn. I cannot say the same for Bob and Scott. After the beach we ordered some pizza and curled up on the couch to watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles because they like pizza. Duh.

Nobody had trouble falling to sleep that night and there was definitely a lot of snoring going on.

On Monday we played a round of mini golf and the little miss actually won a free round because she scored a hole in one (all on her own).

She was so proud of herself, but we need to work on not calling our brother a loser because he did not win.

We all grabbed some lunch at this really yummy burger placed called Square 1 Burgers. Um, holy amazing. There are so many burgers, with any meat you could imagine, and it's all delicious! While we were there I was able to snag this photo of Jilly and her Uncle Bob.

If you've been reading this blog for any amount of time, you know Uncle Bob holds a very special place in Jilly's heart. Bob is one of Scott's fraternity brothers from FSU and has been in the kiddos lives since day 1. Yup, he came to the hospital hours after they were born and stayed for the first two days just holding them, feeding them and being an awesome uncle. Jilly and Bob have always been close, I mean the girl pooped on him every time he held her and they are still close. That's love people.

Thank you again, Bob and Vanessa for opening your home to us and spending the weekend with us!

I hope all of you had a great weekend as well!

Bob's Wedding Weekend Extravaganza!

This was a whirlwind weekend to say the least! Scott headed out to Tampa on Thursday for Bob's Bachelor Day and I headed out to Sarasota on Friday morning with the kiddos. I have to pat myself on the back for getting the three of us out to Sarasota and only forgetting one item (Scott's brown shoes, which really he only needed for the rehearsal) and getting there a half hour ahead of schedule.

We stayed at Lido Beach Resort, which is where the ceremony was held. It's right on Lido Key and was super. The kids were excited to be staying in a hotel and to be by the beach.

That night we had the rehearsal, which basically was going to tell us what the next day was going to be like. The kids even had special shirts to wear:

Aaron's said "I'm in charge of the rings" and Jill's said "I'm in charge of the petals". Aaron liked his shirt so much he wore it to bed. The rehearsal went pretty good, we learned that Jill didn't want to wear shoes, which was a big help in prepping for the big day. A huge thank you to Bob's parents for inviting us to the rehearsal dinner. Everything was delicious and it was a great time!

The day of the wedding we took the kids to the beach first thing in the morning to get it out of their system. All Aaron talked about the night before was going down to the water, so we let them play around and throw some shells into the water.

Isn't that a great photo? It's definitely one of my favorites.

I got a little nervous about an hour or so before the wedding because Jill decided she wasn't going to wear the dress. I may or may not have bribed her with a Barbie. Whatever, judge all you want, but the girl got in the dress didn't she?

It was HOT at wedding time. Normally there is a nice breeze, but no such luck. Aaron walked down like a champ and Jill froze once she hit the sand because it was warm. Scott ran up and walked her down and then she went right to Bob's sister Katie and proceeded to ask where her Barbie was. No lie. Vanessa looked gorgeous and the ceremony was pure perfection!

We were able to snag a lot of amazing photos on the beach before the reception too. The one of the left is Vanessa, her niece, Bob and the kiddos. The one on the right it all the bridesmaids and the kids, or "the girls" as both of the kids called them.

The reception was a blast as well! Jill spent the majority of the night with either the girls, the best man (who she's dancing with in the photo below), or the little boy that was there. Aaron floated between the guys, the fraternity brothers, the girls, or us.

I, specifically, had a wine-tastic time. Since Scott had a whole day of drinking and fun at Bob's Bachelor Day, I got to have my turn at the reception. I think I was two glasses in by the time Scott and the kids were announced with the bridal party. In this photo....well I have no idea, but I'm willing to bet it was equivalent to one of the large bottles of wine.

It was so great being able to see all of the brothers from Chi Phi, as well as having a chance to meet the rest of Bob and Vanessa's friends and families.

Thank you to Bob and Vanessa for including us in your special day! We know you two will have a lifetime of happiness and ridiculously good looking children that we can spoil!

Mommy and Me Monday

Mommy and Me Monday at Really, Are You Serious?
Hosted by Krystyn

I think this is my favorite Mommy and Me Monday picture to date. We went to Sarasota on Thursday to visit our friend Bob and spent the afternoon at the beach. Scott snapped this picture of me and the kids heading to the water.

I may even print this one out and frame it, well if I can Photoshop our the person swimming, ha ha!

Life's a beach

Yesterday we went out to Sarasota to see our friend Bob and his girlfriend Vanessa. You never know what the drive out to the coast will be like, especially with spring breaks really kicking into high gear this week. But I have to say the drive went pretty well, Aaron even took a quick nap.

We hung out at Bob's place for a while and then had some lunch. Jill took full advantage of being between the two "rookies". We let the kids sit in booster seats, which I have to say they did really well in, but I think I'd only use them if we had to sit in a booth. Jill even made sure to "borrow" some of her Uncle Bob's french fries.

After lunch we went out to the beach. I didn't full on plan for a beach day, mainly because the Gulf is still pretty chilly and I had zero intention of actually going in the water. Hind sight being 20/20 I would have put them in suits with swim diapers. Oh well, live and learn.
The kids loved the water and wanted to go down to it every few minutes to let the waves crash against their feet and legs. Jill was also a huge fan of the sand, and boy did we end up with sand everywhere! Aaron was starting to get burned out by this point and every little thing caused a major meltdown. Thankfully, Uncle Bob happened to have a tennis ball in his car and that seemed to do the trick.

This trip definitely set the bar for the summer! I was hoping they would love the beach, and they did! Can't wait to spend a lot of time on the beach! Hopefully when we go again both kids will sleep on the way home :)

Thanks again Bob and Vanessa for having us!
