What's your passion?

I don't know how many of you know this (don't know if I've ever mentioned it before), but when I was in high school I was in the marching band and concert/symphonic band. Not just any marching band, the marching band. I'm a nerd, I know. I started playing clarinet when I was in 4th grade and then started playing bassoon in my sophomore year of high school. I was also in the pit during marching season. Multi-talented? Sure.

This is a video from my senior year. We won Nationals that year.

I told you that to tell you this. Music is, obviously, something I'm passionate about. I love all kinds and hope to pass this appreciation on to my kids. We watch Fantasia 2000 a lot in our house, it has several of my favorite songs (Rhapsody in Blue, Pines of Rome, Firebird Suite to name a few) and is not as scary as the original Fantasia. Plus, The Sorcerer's Apprentice has a killer bassoon solo, but I digress. I'm also a big art fan. I love classic pieces, mainly baroque and rococo (Caravaggio is a personal fave!). This is also something I plan to pass on to my kids.

I cannot tell you how excited I was when I found Little Einstein's. This show pairs a classic artist with a classic composer in every episode. Plus, my kids love it! My parents just brought down a few of the DVD's for the kids and one is Firebird Rescue. I cannot tell you how happy I was when I found out the first episode on the DVD features Firebird Suite. I am so thankful that a show like this exists and can help me instill a love of the arts with my kids.

What about you? What passion of yours do you hope to share with your kids?

We just got that DVD Little Einsteins and we have watched it over and over about 100 times in the car! My passion is arts/crafts and sewing. I am not sure that they will pick up the actual sewing part but to be able to understand it and maybe sew a button on something would be nice.

I, too, have a passion for music. I haven't broken out my trumpet in front of the kiddos yet...I don't know if their developing (?) eardrums are ready for it just yet. HA! But I do try to expose them to many different kinds of music. They love to dance with me, and they even have a pretty decent groove themselves (relatively speaking, at least!).

My hubby is a soccer nut, so his play time with the girls usually includes kicking the play ball around the den.

We've both agreed to let them pursue their own interests, but we also agree that a little exposure to our passions won't hurt, either. :)
