Jill's first haircut....

Yesterday we decided it was time for Jill to get her first haircut. Her hair was so long in the back, short on the sides and then there's those wild bangs, something had to be done. We headed over to the Magic Kingdom's Harmony Barbershop, because that's where Aaron got his first haircut.

Both kids were talking about the monorail, or as Aaron calls it the ah-woo (no idea where that came from), from the moment I said where we were going. I think our days of taking the ferry boat are over. Plus, this time, they got to sit like a big boy and girl on the seats. Jill naturally cuddled up to Paw Paw:

First thing we headed to the barbershop and decided Jill would be first since we weren't sure how she was going to do. We never seem to pick a good time to hit the barbershop, it was pretty busy when we got there. When it was Jill's turn I seriously took the biggest deep cleansing breath to prep myself for God only knows what was going to happen. She refused to wear the cape, can't blame her, I'm not a fan either.

She only shrugged up her shoulders a few times and did amazingly well. The bubbles were a hit and definitely kept her distracted the whole time. When she was done she got a pair of Mickey ears just like Aaron has. She even kept them on for longer than 2.5 seconds.

Doesn't she look like a big girl??? Sigh...time is going by too fast....

The old pro, Aaron, was up next. He did well, but since his takes longer (the kid has a ton of hair on that head) he tends to get agitated after a few minutes.

When we went to leave we had the most epic of meltdowns because we had to leave the bubbles. I mean EPIC. Screaming, crying, snot, the whole shebang. People that were standing by City Hall turned to look at us, that's how loud my daughter was. It was just awesome. Thankfully, the woman that cut their hair had some extra bubbles and brought them out for Jill. How nice is that?! Tears instantly stopped and it was as if nothing happened. Gotta love 2 year olds.

As promised to Mr. Aaron, we went on the steam train next. We even got to sit in the first car by the engine. I thought he was going to lose his mind. Jill was cute too, every time the whistle would blow she'd yell "All aboard!"

After we got off the train Scott and Aaron went up to see the engineer, since we know him (who don't we know at that park?) and Aaron got to see the inside of the train, which he will tell you is hot.

Since nobody is here right now we got to take the kids on the speedway. The line for this ride is usually a 30 minute minimum, yesterday it was 10 minutes, if that. I had Aaron and Scott had Jill. The kids were so cute on it, and it will definitely be something we have to do again and again and again.

Finally we let the kids play in Toontown on the playground. At one point Jill and a little boy were chasing each other and he yelled "Boo!" so what does my daughter do? Lift her shirt, a la Girls Gone Wild, and scream. If this is any inclination of what the college years will be I'm going to start stockpiling hard liquor (for myself) and bail money (for Jill).

One of the benefits of having a husband in security is that we get warnings on when the bad weather is coming in and how quickly it's approaching. Needless to say, when the kids were playing a security officer stopped to talk to Scott and told him a storm was on its way so we hightailed it out there. We almost made it to the monorail before the rain, but thankfully only got caught in the sprinkle, not the downpour.

All in all it was a great night and I'm glad we were all well enough to go have fun!

The magical world of Disney

Let's start with the absolutely amazing news first, my dishwasher is running as I type this post. Cue the choirs of angels! It's been a very long 3.5 weeks, but we are up and running again!
Now that we have that out of the way....

Last night we took the kids and Mimi and Paw Paw to Magic Kingdom to see the Main Street Electrical Parade. It's only here for the summer so we wanted to go before it got unbearably hot. Our first stop though was to get Aaron's hair cut. He was looking extra shaggy and we figured since we were there and they did such a great job with his first haircut we would just go again. He was a little freaked out at first, but who can blame him after that not so Fantastic Sam's experience?

He looks like such a little man now, but he'll always be my little boy.

Since we had a lot of time to kill we had some dinner and went to see Mickey's PhilharMagic. Turns out this was Mimi's first time seeing something in 3D. Then we took the kids on Prince Charming's Carousel. The kiddos are old pros at this and pretty much act like they are Prince Charming and Cinderella the entire time they are on the horses.

Since the parade has only been at the park since Friday we knew we would probably need to get seats 2 hours before it started. I am so glad we did this, otherwise who knows where we would have sat. To kill some time we took the kids on the train, which they love, and then settled in to our spots.

I have to say the kids did amazingly well for sitting in one spot for an hour and a half. I'm sure that giant rice krispy shaped like Mickey helped.

When the announcement came on that the parade was starting the kids got super excited and then pretty much lost their minds for the next 20 minutes.

I am so glad they got to see this parade. Scott and I remember seeing it when we were really little, so it's great to have that same memory with our kids. That my friends is the magic of Disney.

A walk back in time...

Even though Scott works for Disney, we are still annual pass holders, so we got the inside scoop on the re-launch if you will of the Main Street Electrical Light Parade (which shall now be referred to in this post as ELP) and the brand new fireworks for the summer. We debated taking the kids to the first night and decided against it because we knew it would be crowded, and we were right. People got there at 3 pm to start saving seats. We got lucky with our seats and we didn't get there until 7:30, a good hour and a half before the parade.
I haven't seen this parade in YEARS, and when I say say years I mean probably since I was a tot, but it was all that I remembered and more. This parade holds a special spot in my heart for a few reasons, 1) I saw it when I was little so it always reminds me of coming with my parents as a kid and 2) we used the music at our wedding after the recessional.

It was so awesome to watch again and I cannot wait until we take the kids to see it, I think they're going to love it!

The new fireworks also debuted last night. They give you special glasses to watch them with, I opted out of the glasses because they made me feel sick with the first firework (most things make me sick since I had the kids, happen to anyone else?). The new fireworks were pretty awesome, they say they're 360 but I would say they're 180, which is still pretty freakin' awesome.

Here's a quick video Scott took to show the difference with and without the glasses:

Hope you are having a great weekend!

Staycation Vacation!

Let me start by saying we had an awesome vacation! It may have only been a few miles down the road (hence the term staycation) but it was awesome and felt like a real vacation! Thanks again Mom and Dad for setting that up!

We stayed at Kidani Village at Animal Kingdom Lodge. Scott and I have previously stayed here as a surprise for our anniversary. We knew the kids would love it because the animals are always out on the savanna. We had a one bedroom which includes a kitchen, living room, bedroom and two (yes two!) bathrooms.

It was more than enough space for us and I loved that we had a kitchen so I could make the kiddos breakfast in the morning. The only downside to Kidani is there is no quick service food location, you would have to go over to the main Animal Kingdom Lodge (now called Jambo House) to get a quick bite to eat.

After we settled in we headed over to Magic Kingdom to get Aaron his very first haircut! The Harmony Barbershop is located right next to the Emporium and specializes in first haircuts. We didn't have to wait very long and Aaron did amazing! The only time he really fussed was when Norma pulled out the clippers to trim up his sides. He even got mouse ears and a certificate for being so brave!

He looks like such a big boy now! No more baby face :(

We were able to catch the parade right after the haircut and then went on some rides. We took the kids into Mickey's PhilharMagic for the first time and Aaron actually wore the 3D glasses the whole time! Jill wasn't too sure about them and had me hold them so she could move them if she didn't like what was on the scream. I don't blame her, I'm not a big 3D fan either. We also took the kids on Goofy's Barnstormer which is a kiddie roller coaster. Aaron loved watching it in line, Jill wasn't too sure about it and was rubbing Scott's cross the whole time. One the ride however, the roles reversed. Jill was squealing and yelling "Whee!" the whole time and after the first drop Aaron was yelling "All done!!!!". I think it may be awhile before we go on that one again ;)

It took zero time for the kids to crash that first night, and I couldn't have been happier! I was a little nervous about how they would do in the pack and plays in the hotel, but they were so tired it didn't matter! Jill actually stake claim of one of the pack in plays the moment she walked in, she was that tired.

The next morning we went to Hollywood Studios to see the Voyage of the Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast shows. Scott had never seen the Little Mermaid show and I had never seen the Beauty and the Beast show so it worked out nicely. The kids loved both! After the shows we took the boat to EPCOT to have dinner at Les Chefs de France. The kids were really good at lunch and were showing no signs of slowing down, but Scott and I were ready for a nap!

All four of us crashed when we got back to the hotel and I mean crashed. I think all of us woke up in the same position we laid down in. It definitely recharged us for the night! We went back to Magic Kingdom to see SpectroMagic. The kids have never seen this parade and we knew they would love it!

I will always have a soft spot for this parade. Scott and I bonded a lot during this parade when I worked for him on Main Street. Really, anything on Main Street brings back memories of Scott and I way back in the day. I love the fact that the place we met will always be there and I can relive those memories anytime I want.

After the parade we tried to beat the crowd and head back to the room before the fireworks. Since it was still pretty early, and we did take a nice nap, we went out to the overlook area to see if any of the animals were still close. We were able to see a zebra that was thisclose, seriously. The overlook area is nice, at night they have a bonfire set up and rocking chairs set up around it.

Today has just been a relaxed day. We took our time getting ready for check out. By the time we got home the kids were ready for naps, even though it seemed like we had just gotten up. It was a great two days away, but now I think I need a vacation from my staycation. Hope you've had a great week so far!
