8 years

I honestly cannot believe it has been 8 years since Scott and I said, "I do." It honestly seems like yesterday and there are so many memories from that day.

Here are some of my favorite memories from that day...

Before my Grandma Janes passed away, she made all of us girls hankies for our weddings. I carried mine with me down the aisle, wrapped around my bouquet. I also wore the same cross my Grandma Ruhling wore on her wedding day. I loved having both of them with me that day, even though only one could actually be with me.

I loved my moments before the ceremony getting ready with my girls and parents. We basically took over their hotel room. There were so many things that my parents probably should never have heard, but it was so much fun and definitely helped calm my nerves.

I don't have a photo of my next favorite moment...riding in the car with my Dad to the Floridian. I loved having that time with him. I'm pretty sure he asked me a dozen times if I was happy.

I loved taking photos at the Grand Floridian. The reality of what was about to happen was sinking in and if you know me, you know I giggle when I'm nervous. So needless to say, the giggles and silliness was in full force for these photos.

Doyle. I mean, is there anything else to say? When I was trying to figure out what to do with hair and makeup for the big day, I was beyond stressed out. I went home for my bridal shower and went to see Doyle to get ideas. I was in such good hands with him and knew I had to have him with me on my special day. Thank you, again, Doyle for making me and my girls beautiful!

The moment my Dad handed me over to Scott. I loved watching his face when he walked me down the aisle and the look on his face when he and my Mom walked out of the chapel. Proud is the right word to use.

I wanted my Godmother to be a part of our wedding and I am so thankful she did one of our readings. This was the only moment in the entire ceremony I cried. Naturally, I laughed after, because after all, I am a nervous laugher.

This. Just this.

Our first dance was to Keith Urban's "Making Memories of Us." I honestly couldn't think of a better song.

The moment that Kristin told everyone about the infamous "Thirty-One Flavors" list. My Dad asked why he spent all of that money on my education. I still have no comment.

Dancing with my Dad to "The Way You Look Tonight."

This three layer masterpiece. Every layer was delicious. Every layer was magic.

Carrying on this tradition. My Grandma made the apron for me and put the same number of babies on it that my Mom had. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, read this article, it's explained at the bottom.

The Bob and Amanda dance off that resulted in the death of one alcoholic beverage.

Exiting like a total boss. Scott had this idea and our wedding planner was shocked that nobody else had thought to do this. I will say, I am glad I was sober because I never would have made it on that boat otherwise.

I seriously cannot believe it has been 8 years. I love you more today than 8 years ago. We have been through so much and have grown so much. I cannot imagine my life any other way.

Happy anniversary, Scott! Here's to another fantastic seven years!

The Story Behind the Photo: We're on a Mission from God

Have I ever mentioned that my brothers are characters? Every family function somehow has a theme to it, for my wedding, it was the Blues Brothers.

So when "Shake Your Tailfeather" came on, my brothers and nephews came out looking like this. I have no idea where they stored these items or how they got them in to the reception, but it was awesome and definitely one of the funnier moments of the evening.

The Story Behind the Photo: Is There Another Manager?

When you get married at Disney you receive a gift from them. It was an awesome surprise that was almost spoiled...

On Scott's last day before the wedding he was called to one of the resorts for a possible theft. He was the only manager that could respond and when he arrived he saw our wedding planner who immediately said, "Is there another manager?".  Scott looked at Ken like he was crazy and asked if his area manager could handle the call to which Ken replied "of course".  So why wouldn't Ken let Scott handle the call? The item that was missing was what we would be receiving a few days later, custom watches with Cinderella's Castle on them. It all made sense when we opened them at our reception.

The Story Behind the Photo: May I Have the Rings?

I'm really loving these "story behind the photo" posts, so I have another one for you.

Scott wanted to play a prank of his best man, Harley, so bad he couldn't stand it. When we were meeting with our planner he told us about how Major Domo can bring up the rings and you can just "forget" to tell the best man. Scott was sold. Did Harley fall for it? Not really. Did it make for the most amazing moment and photo ever? Most definitely. I mean, look at Kira's face, it says it all.

The Story Behind the Photo: Something Old Something New

Continuing with the wedding weekend posts, here is another photo and the story behind it.

I love this photo of all of my "stuff" from our wedding day, but most especially because two of the most important things to me are in it.

The cross in the photo is the same cross my Grandma Ruhling wore on her wedding day to my Grandpa Bednarek. He gave it to her as a wedding present and she gave it to me. I always knew I wanted to wear it on my wedding day.

The handkerchief in the photo was made by my Grandma Janes. Grandma made all of us girls a handkerchief for our wedding day and I had this in my hands the entire ceremony. It was like she was with me on my wedding day.

More posts to come before our anniversary on Monday!

The Story Behind the Photo: Our Rehearsal Dinner

I wanted to share two of my favorite photos from our rehearsal dinner and the story behind them.

My father hates carrots. Not dislikes...hates. At our rehearsal dinner we served carrots and he specifically asked that he not have carrots. So what did I do? I made sure he had an extra plate full of carrots. The only problem? My wonderful brother Art, who knew about the plan, made sure I had an equally large plate of carrots, my least favorite vegetable.

This will always be one of my favorite memories from the night.

Way Back When-esday: Silver Anniversary

Dateline: June 6th, 1987

Today is my brother Art and his wife Karyn's 25th wedding anniversary! How cool is that? They are celebrating their silver anniversary the same year our parents are celebrating their golden anniversary. I was the flower girl in the wedding and 19 years later their daughter (who was 4 at the time) was my flower girl in my wedding. I wish I could have found a photo of the whole wedding party for this, or even just one with my brother in it.

Happy anniversary Art and Karyn!

Our Honeymoon

Welcome to the last wedding week post! Yesterday was our anniversary, we had a fabulous time!

The day after our wedding my parents had a little party at their hotel for whoever wanted to come over. It was such a nice party, and very chill.  Scott and I were dead tired though from having to get up at the crack of dawn for our photos.

The party itself was nowhere near dull, in fact we had a lot of excitement, especially when my nephew got his head stuck in the balcony. True story.

I will never forget Kaitlyn coming into the room saying "Jeffy got his head stuck".  Nor will I forget Scott and my brother Art debating if they should call the fire department strictly to see the trucks.

That night we packed for Jamaica and left bright and early the next morning. We stayed in Ocho Rios at the Sandals resort out there. Let me tell you, all inclusive is the way to go on your honeymoon. It was so relaxing.

Ocho Rios is gorgeous and had plenty to offer. We went to Dunn's River Falls and climbed the falls, swam with dolphins, went on a Jeep ride into the mountains, and braved the flea market.

We booked our honeymoon at just the right time too, they were having a 50% or 60% off sale, so we were able to get one of the nicest rooms for an amazing price.

That's it for wedding week! I can't believe it's been 6 years since all of this happened, it just doesn't seem like it can be 6 years yet.

Our 6th Anniversary

6 years ago today Scott and I said "I Do!" not far from the place we met 9 years before. I love that we will always have the place we met, and married, readily available for a visit.

Happy Anniversary Scott! I can't wait to see what the future holds!

Making Memories of Us

Welcome to another Wedding Week post!

Scott and I debate for a while on our first dance song. We didn't really have "a song", so we had to really think about what we wanted it to be.  Sara Evan's "I Could Not Ask For More" came to mind, it was the song I heard when I dropped Scott off at the airport after his first visit when we were "more than friends".  Other contenders included:
Billy Currington's "Must Be Doin' Something Right" (ended up being the bridal party dance)
John Michael Montgomery's "I Love the Way You Love Me" (we played it at the wedding)

Then we heard Keith Urban's "Making Memories of Us" and just knew.

Here's the lyrics:

I'm gonna be here for you baby
I'll be a man of my word
Speak the language in a voice that you have never heard
I wanna sleep with you forever
And I wanna die in your arms
In a cabin by a meadow where the wild bees swarm

And I'm gonna love you like nobody loves you
And I'll earn your trust making memories of us

I wanna honor your mother
And I wanna learn from your pa
I wanna steal your attention like a bad outlaw
I wanna stand out in a crowd for youA man among men
I wanna make your world better than it's ever been

And I'm gonna love you like nobody loves you
And I'll earn your trust making memories of us

We'll follow the rainbowWherever the four winds blow
And there'll be a new day
Comin' your way

I'm gonna be here for you from now on
This you know somehow
You've been stretched to the limits but it's alright now
And I'm gonna make you a promiseIf there's life after this
I'm gonna be there to meet you with a warm, wet kiss

And I'm gonna love you like nobody loves you
And I'll earn your trust making memories of us
I'm gonna love you like nobody loves you
And I'll win your trust making memories of us

Every time I hear this on the radio I have to stop and listen to it. The song was absolutely perfect and is a great reminder of one of the happiest days of my life.

Keep checking back for more wedding posts this week!

Thanksgiving Thursday: Anniversary Edition

For those of you that don't know what Thanksgiving Thursday is, it is the one time during the week where you stop and basically count your blessings. Even if you've had one of those weeks, I promise you can find at least one thing to be thankful for, no matter how big or small.

Since Sunday is our 6th anniversary, this Thanksgiving Thursday is all about our marriage!

This anniversary I am thankful for:

  • January 16, 2003. It's the day I met Scott in the tunnels underneath Magic Kingdom. He was the coordinator of training at the time for Main Street Ops and I was in his last pick up, he would move up to management the next week.
  • Scott remembering that day as much as I do. He can even tell you what I was wearing.
  • The night he asked if I wanted to close Main Street with him, meaning walk the last family out of the park. We were all alone inside Cinderella Castle (literally above where we first met), it was perfect until a construction worker at Mickey's Philharmagic slammed his toolbox on his finger and Scott had to leave me with the 60 year old security officer.
  • The summer of 2004. Even though in all respects it was an awful summer for me, Scott was a shoulder to cry on, a confidant, and the best friend I could have had. If he hadn't been there as a friend to me during that summer and the aftermath of that summer, things could have turned out drastically different.
  • The moment we realized we should give a relationship a go. It was not an easy decision and we definitely pissed a lot of people off, but here we are and I wouldn't change it.
  • His patience with me during the aftermath of the summer of 2004. Seriously, the man has the patience of Job.
  • Scott asking my Dad in person if he could marry me. I truly appreciate that he asked him face to face instead of over the phone.
  • May 16, 2005. It's the day I said "yes!" in the rain, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, on our way to Alaska.
  • May 27, 2006. It's the day we said "I do!" in front of our friends and family. The day was pure perfection.
  • The past 6 years of marriage. We've had our shares of ups and downs during the past 6 years, but we have chosen to use those challenges as a way to strengthen our foundation and marriage. I could not imagine spending my life with anyone else.
Happy anniversary Scott!

What are you thankful for this week?

Way Back When-esday: Wedding Week Edition

Dateline: May 26, 2006

Scott and I are celebrating our 6th wedding anniversary this Sunday, so today's Way Back When-esday kicks off my wedding week tribute if you will.

This photo was taken at our rehearsal dinner at the Living Seas in EPCOT.  They have a fabulous VIP room that overlooks the aquarium.

So let me tell you about our rehearsal. Scott was beyond hungover the entire day from his bachelor party. I'm talking he was throwing up as I was driving him to my parents hotel room. That's a phone call every girl wants to make by the way; "Hi Mom, yeah can you bring down your ice bucket filled with water and maybe some paper towels? Why? Oh um....well Scott missed." After a quick nap in my parents room he was ready to roll at the rehearsal. 'Twas classic.

The dinner was fabulous and the cake pictured above was to die for. We served the grooms cake at the rehearsal instead of at the wedding since we figured we'd have plenty of cake to go around at the reception.  The cake was supposed to feature the Florida State Seminole emblem, but our wedding planner, Ken, and I found out that they could make the Disney Security shield and thought that would be a fun surprise. Our wedding planner was so awesome, seriously.

Check back for more wedding memories through Monday!

Our Anniversary

Scott and I had a fantastic anniversary yesterday, and thank you to everyone that left comments, you all are so sweet! We laid pretty low during the day and met up with my brother who is town.

To celebrate our anniversary we went to the Yachtsman Steakhouse at the Yacht Club. Scott and I go to a Disney restaurant every year since we were married at Disney. It's a nice way to take a walk down memory lane. But before we went to dinner, Scott gave me my present:

Amazing right?! I saw this ring around Christmas time and absolutely fell in love with it. I'd been looking for a diamond and emerald ring ever since I found out the kids were going to be born in May. Plus the ring has a double meaning, the kids were born in May and Scott and I were married in May. I'm a lucky girl, that's for sure.

Anyway, back to dinner. We went to the Yachtsman which we haven't been to since right before we got married, you know when I still ate beef.

Scott was beyond excited to finally have a steak dinner and I was more excited about the lobster bisque than anything else. They also surprised us with this bonus dessert:

Thank you Scott for a wonderful day and evening!
