Kindergarten Graduation

The kiddos graduated kindergarten last night and boy was it an experience.

The kiddos were excited and loved having on their caps and gowns. I have to say, it was pretty adorable seeing a bunch of kindergarteners all dressed up. Plus, the way they were asking to take pictures with each other, you would think they were never going to see each other ever again.

Now, their school has graduation down to a science. It's an event planners dream. Everyone has a ticket, you form a line, you present said ticket, proceed to the cafeteria, select a row and park your happy behind. Simple, right? Good God, no. "What do you mean EVERYONE needs a ticket?" Um, you filled out the form to get the ones you have in your hand, right? And this was before graduation even started....

We actually had close seats, not that it mattered. The kiddos processed in to Pomp and Circumstance, naturally, and were just beaming. The classes all sang a couple of songs, too. I did not see my children sing because of this...

Scott was off to the side (like a polite normal person) and took some photos.  OH! I almost forgot. A fight broke out prior to the graduation starting. Yes, a fight broke out at a kindergarten graduation. It was two rows in front of us off to the side. Apparently one family was slightly blocking another family's view. This resulted in several f-bombs, a bird flipping and other obscenities. Kudos to the assistant principals for handling this.

Anyway...After the songs they received their diplomas, sang two more songs and then processed back out. Now, at this point the principal reminded everyone that only ONE member of the family was the pick up the child and everyone else could wait elsewhere. Seeing how well everyone was already listening, I knew this would be an issue.
Have I mentioned that I hate crowds?

I had to ask people to move so I could pick up my child. Seriously. Then, Aaron's teacher had to push him through the crowd to me. Unreal. I sent Scott in for Jill. I just couldn't deal.

The kiddos had a wonderful time and we are beyond proud of them! They cannot wait to start first grade and make all new memories!

What's With the Homework?

The kiddos are in their third week of kindergarten. I cannot believe it. There have definitely been some changes in our house since they started school.

Jillian has become quite the independent and strong-willed girl. Now, she has always been this way, but it seems to be in full force. Scott does not receive any hugs or kisses unless he begs. She also has to be frisked when she leaves the house. Twice she has brought a necklace with her to school (she was successful once).

Aaron is continuing in his independence, but he at least still gives us hugs and kisses. He's really coming into his own and I'm happy that he has a teacher that helps this blossom.

Both kids are really doing well in separate classes, which I knew they would. I love seeing their individual personalities developing.

What don't I love? The mounds of homework! Oh my goodness! Kindergarten is no joke. This is their first week of homework and they have 5 pages of sight words, writing and phonics, plus 10ish pages of math and an art project. It's a short week, too.

I'll just keep telling myself that they will be astrophysicists or something like because they are doing all of this homework. Right? Right...

First Day of Kindergarten

Today was the first day of kindergarten for my kiddos. Scott and I were both home to take them in on their very first day.

Getting them in to the school itself was quite the ordeal. There were so many people, which obviously is to be expected. I would also like to point out this is my first ever experience with public school and I'm not adjusting well. For real.

Jillian walked in front of us down the hall to her class. She acted like she didn't even need us there. I was able to get a hug and kiss out of her, but Scott only got a high five and thumbs up. She's apparently a big girl now.

Aaron on the other hand was not a fan of his first day of school and started screaming and crying when it was time to go in. I had immediate flash backs to my first day of first grade.

They were also pretty hilarious today.  While we were waiting to go in Aaron asked why I didn't put sheets in his backpack and I reminded him there are no naps in kindergarten. His response? WHAT?! Needless to say he was pretty pooped by the end of the day.

I still cannot believe I have kids that are in kindergarten. This will be quite the adjustment for Mama.

I hope all of you had a great first day of school as well!

This.Is.Kindergarten.

Tomorrow morning I will officially have two kindergartners. My readiness for this event on a scale of 1-10 is a negative 1. Maybe that's a slight exaggeration and I'm really like a 2.

Tonight I laid out all of their school supplies and separated them into their respected bags. I still cannot believe how many things they needed for school and I know in future years the lists will only get longer.

They are genuinely excited about school and their new teachers. This is also the first year they will be in separate classes, something that I do not think has fully sunk in with them. They will eat lunch together (if they want) and apparently their classes do a lot of projects together, which is always nice.

Speaking of lunch....

I made my very first school lunches tonight. Following the tradition that my Mom started many many years ago, I made them cookie cutter sandwiches. I chose hearts for their first day because I knew writing them "I love you" notes would not be wise, you know since they aren't really reading yet. So heart sandwiches it is!

I cannot believe my babies are going to a big school and taking their own lunches. Ah! When did this happen?!

I'm going to need some serious tissues in the morning...anyone else?
