Football, Beer and Swimming

Today was a pretty awesome start to the weekend. Michelle and I met up for an almost 5.5 mile run this morning and if it wasn't so humid, I'm pretty sure we would have pushed past 6. The humidity is killing us though.

With only a month until the 10 miler we are trying to up our distances. I'm not terribly concerned about time right now, because we are pretty close to the target time and on race day adrenaline normally pushes us a little faster.

Today was also the season kick off game for Notre Dame. Naturally, I wore my ND shirt and the kiddos actually picked out their matching shirts to wear with me.

How cute are we? I mean really? Now to be fair we will all wear our Seminole gear on Monday for the FSU season opener, but today was all about the blue and gold.

This afternoon we headed up to Mimi and Paw Paw's and met up with my friend Michelle and her family for an afternoon in the pool. Seriously, it is so hot and humid that the only thing to do is swim and drink beer. I mean, I guess the beer is optional, but whatever. I did however have an issue with drinking Sam Adams
OctoberFest while swimming. There's just something inherently wrong with that.

All of the kids had a blast and fell asleep in record time this evening. I'm fairly certain that I will be right  behind them. This has definitely been a great start to the holiday weekend and I hope yours is going just as well!

What is it, like 105?

We were able to meet up with Bob and Vanessa today to do a little swimming and enjoy one of our last weekends before school starts up.  Bob and Vanessa are both teachers, so this is the last hurrah for them as well.

The few hours of splashing were perfect, it was entirely too hot to do anything else. I think they said with the heat index it felt like 105 today.

I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend and stayed cool. I also hope you had so much fun that you made a face similar to Aaron.

My Love of the Cement Pond

One of the many perks to living in Florida is that we spend a lot of time near or in water. Now, this water can be a lake, an ocean, a river, a spring or my personal favorite, a pool where you can see the bottom and there are no creatures swimming with you.

Don't get me wrong, I love going to the beach and I love sitting lakeside, I just do not go in any farther than ankle deep. There are gators in the lakes, snakes and fish. And the ocean? Please! There are sharks, dumb boaters, rip currents and fish, lots and lots of fish. Yes, I do not like fish, unless of course they are on my plate.

My children, on the other hand, did not inherit my dislike of the water. They will dive in toes first to pretty much any body of water. The further out they can go, the happier they are. Our big compromise is the pool. I will definitely jump in the pool with them on a hot summer day. Now by jump, I naturally mean walk in slowly, grab a noodle and float around. I'm not 10, I do not jump in anymore.

We spent most of the afternoon lounging in the cement pond and boy was it perfect. We haven't been able to swim the past couple of weekends because every time we would head out the door a storm would approach. Thankfully, the weather cooperated and we were able to splash around for several hours.

Thank you again Mimi and PawPaw for letting us swim!

I'm a Mermaid

Scott was finally feeling better enough to do something other than sit on the couch, so after Jilly and I came home from church, we went up to Mimi and PawPaw's to go swimming.

The kiddos were actually pretty patient waiting to go into the pool.

The kiddos were able to do a whole lot of splashing and we even had a few swimming races. Jill also informed all of us that she is, in fact, a mermaid. Who knew.

We even attempted some swimming without the vests on. Jill immediately sank like a rock, but then she did pretty well. I think she will be swimming a lot faster than her brother.

All in all it was an awesome afternoon. Our evening on the other hand....sigh. More on that later.

Apparently you get a sibling on Labor Day

First a potty training update....Jill is still doing amazingly well, Aaron...well he's on a break. He was getting to the point that he was holding it all day (12+ hours) and Scott and I were worried it was going to end up traumatizing him, so we decided to wait and try again later. I'm thinking we made the right call on this and maybe after he watches Jill continue to get praise he will follow suit. Hopefully....

We made our first out of the house trip with Jill and again, she did great. Granted, we didn't go all that far, just to Mimi and Paw Paw's. The kids love swimming up there and are getting more and more brave with each visit.

Don't you just love my three children? ;)

Yesterday morning we took advantage of the not so crazy hot weather and rode bikes. Well, Jill rode hers and Aaron made a pouty face because he wanted to be "outside" as in the backyard.

I had to remind him the front yard counts as "outside", but he didn't seem to care.

So now onto the seemingly hilarious news...Jill asked to go to store this morning and naturally, I lied and said it was closed. I informed her it's a holiday and the store isn't open. Her response? "A holiday! Woo hoo! We have a baby? A brother sister?" Say what?! Aside from Christmas I know of no other holiday that involves a baby being born. A no, there's no baby brother or sister on the horizon. Well, not yet anyway.

I hope all of you have a fantastic holiday weekend! Stay safe!

The weekend we had nothing on the calendar

This was the first weekend all month that we did not have something scheduled, so we took full advantage of being able to relax!

Saturday we took the kids up by Mimi and Paw Paw and went swimming. In this heat, that's really all you can do right now. The kids are becoming really good swimmers. Jill was even putting her face in the water and blowing bubbles. They also jumped from the ledge a few times and did some cannonballs.

After swimming we all pretty much took naps and then headed out the dinner. It was definitely nice to be able to just relax all day and not worry about running around.

Sunday after church we just hung out at the house. It ended up raining in the afternoon, so it was a good thing we didn't have anything planned. I ran up to Ikea with my friend Jenn to find her son a new bed. We found a bed frame for $49, um hello deal!

After the Ikea adventure we all just settled in for dinner and then some brownies. I made chicken kebabs a la king for dinner (recipe is coming on Wednesday) and they were crazy delicious.

I cannot tell you how nice it was to just have a relaxing weekend. Hope yours was just as relaxing!

Way back When-esday and Pool Fun!

Dateline: November 2008
Age: 6 Months

Today is Mimi's birthday, so in honor of her special day I thought it would only be fitting to have today's Way back When-esday include a photo of her. Happy birthday Mimi!!!!

Play along with Cheryl at Twinfatuation!

*****************************************************
Yesterday we took the kiddos swimming at Mimi and Paw Paw's, really it's the only thing to do when it's this hot. The kids are doing so well with their swimming and are now jumping into the pool. Aaron loves jumping in and makes sure to yell "Are you ready? I ready!" before he jumps. He doesn't wait for you to say you're ready though....

Jill likes jumping in as well, but is more content floating around and doggy paddling....

She really likes splashing around in the spa area of the pool and definitely makes sure that everyone has a noodle to float on.

Hope you're having a great day so far!

Feeling hot hot hot

Yesterday it was 113 degrees with the heat index. Yup, 113. I think it was 100 without the heat index. Clearly, it's way to hot to anything but splash in the pool. We decided to take the kiddos up by Mimi and Paw Paw's for a late after dip. This was their first time in the big pool this year, and Aaron jumped right in, literally. The boy has no fear, none, zip zero. He was a fish the entire time and got mad when we would hold him in the pool. I'm definitely looking for swim lessons so I can be more confident with him swimming on his own (yup, I'm that paranoid mother). Jilly did great too, she wasn't all about swimming, she enjoyed floating around and occasionally splashing Paw Paw. It's supposed to be super hot again today, so I'm thinking indoor activities. I just can't get over how hot it is already. Makes me wonder what August is going to be like (yikes!). Stay cool everyone ;)
