Today I did some much needed grocery shopping. Now that we're on a tight budget I kind of like grocery shopping (weird, right?). It has definitely turned into a game of how many things can I throw in my cart and keep it at $100 or less? Today I definitely impressed Scott! I made a quick run to Winn-Dixie because they had chicken breast and pork chops buy one get one free (I KNOW!) so I had to stock up. I walked out with 6 lbs of chicken breast and 12 pork chops for $20, yup $20. Then I headed over to Sweetbay and stuffed my cart to the max and just hit $100. So yeah I spent a little more this week, but I won't have to buy meat for a while, so it all works out in the long run :)
I made the kiddos a new dinner this evening, blue corn chip crusted tilapia. I got the recipe from Weelicious.com (we just featured them on Multiples and More). I need to work on my "crusting" skills as you can see in the photo....
But Aaron LOVED it! Jill ate enough of it to get the mandarin oranges she spotted on the counter, but hey, I'll take it! Scott liked it a lot too, he was sneaking some when he thought I wasn't looking.
Here's some quick video of the kiddos playing around today....
We also hung out with Mimi and PawPaw today. Jill loves running in the kitchen and dancing on the mat in front of the sink! Aaron of course loves the big screen, but mainly because he can see his own reflection in it. If the weather cooperates this weekend we will hopefully be back there to go swimming :)
In other news, today is my Aunt Eunice's 70th birthday! Happy Birthday Aunt Eunice, I hope you had an awesome day!
Yes, it is finally Thursday! This week I am thankful for....
Scott and the fact that I have gotten to sleep in pretty much every morning since he's been home.
Scott not hitting my back to be funny :)
All the support we have around us
My kiddos having the craziest personalities that constantly have me laughing!
The Wiggles. You are like crack to my children, and I am totally ok with that.
My sunburn almost being gone.
MoM's only day at the beach!
The creepy guy telling me I was turning into a lobster, otherwise who knows how long we would have stayed in the water!
Nicole sending over her new books, Scenarios for Girls "Truth or Dare" and "All that Glitters". I think it's awesome I got to be one of the firsts to read it and be able to write a review. Click HERE and HERE to preorder yours for your tweens!
Being able to be apart of Multiples and More. It was definitely a thought I had for a while and without Lani, I don't know if it would have happened so quickly. You rock Lani :)
Play along with Nicole at What a trip! And be sure to check out our Shout Out of the Week on Multiples and More, she's from Chicago and HILARIOUS!
We had another really chill day today. Scott was gone for most of the morning/early afternoon so it was nice (no offense) to have some time alone with the kiddos. I miss our routine and alone time (again, no offense Scott). So where was Scott you ask? Well he had to take the Criminal Justice Basic Abilities test today because he is in the running for a sponsorship with Orange County. This is something he has always wanted to do, but never pursued because he didn't want to take the pay cut. Now is the perfect time for him to follow through on his dream, and I couldn't be prouder of him (is it prouder or more proud?). He passed the test with a 96%, which in case it wasn't obvious, is an amazing score! He is actually being processed rather quickly, which is exciting. He also has an interview on Monday, so fingers/toes/eyes/any other appendage crossed!
After Scott got home we needed to do a quick Walmart run and the kiddos got a new DVD, The Wiggles Go Bananas. What's great about this DVD is that a portion of the proceeds go to UNICEF. And as an added bonus Kylie Minogue makes a special appearance as the Pink Wiggle.
So then, my graceful daughter, hit her head on God only knows what and has a giant...excuse me...GINORMOUS bump/knot on her head. I'm hoping it goes down quickly because it is smack dab in the middle of her forehead. She also started grinding her teeth today. Seriously that is nails on a chalkboard for me, I wanted to lose my mind! UHHH! Hopefully that doesn't continue.
Aaron was super whiny today. I think he's getting his remaining three molars, plus a couple more teeth all at once. This would explain the river of drool on his shirt and sheets. Oh his sheets are gross, I almost have to change them daily because of the drool, it is disgusting. I don't remember reading that chapter in What to Expect, I'm just saying.
So that's about it over here. Hope you had a great Wednesday!
This is one of my favorite photos from when the kiddos were little! I have no idea why Scott was leaning over them "lecturing" them, but we were still pretty sleep deprived at that point. I do remember that Aaron pretty much laughed at him the whole time. Jill just looked at him like, "Yeah OK whatever you say Pops".
It's still so hard to believe that this photo is only a year old! So much has changed in this year and I'm glad I actually took the advice to take as many photos as possible.
Today I watched Jenn's boys while she worked. The kiddos all get along really well. Her older son Brandon is a big help and keeps the kids entertained while I get lunches ready.
Other than that today was pretty chill, we didn't do much of anything, which considering the sunburn still...well...burns, it was nice.
The kiddos devoured their cinnamon apples again tonight which is awesome!!! Jill definitely likes them a ton more than Aaron, but tonight they had tilapia for dinner so that could be why he didn't eat that many apples. Aaron is a HUGE tilapia fan! He can eat 1 1/2 fillets all by himself and still look for more. Jill eats enough of it to get her fruit. Here's some photos from our night...
Hope you had a great Tuesday!!! Check out the Multiples Blog tomorrow for an awesome giveaway!
Jill was in rare form today! Scott was changing the kiddos diapers after their nap while I was getting them some juice and then I heard "Jilly no! Amanda you gotta see this!" Then I see Jill running down the hall with a package of graham crackers in one hand and a half eaten graham cracker in the other laughing. Apparently little Miss was digging through the diaper bag and found the opened package of graham crackers, gave one to her brother and then took off down the hall. To make matters worse she was so proud of herself that I had to video it, which probably makes her think it was ok...sigh.... but first here is Aaron savoring his stolen graham cracker...
The little princess also learned how to sit on her chairs from the table and chairs that Busia and DziaDzio bought the kiddos for their birthday. Again, she was super proud of herself so we had to take a million photos! She was even nice enough to read to Aaron, at least I think she was reading to him, but chances are she was looking in the mirror at herself.
Here is the video of the little miss in action today....
And then tonight I made the kiddos some warm cinnamon apples! They were a HUGE hit with the little and big kids (mainly Scott). Plus, they were super easy to make and took me no time whatsoever! Here's the recipe...
What you need: 4 McIntosh, Gala, Rome or Granny Smith Apples peeled and sliced 1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar 1 teaspoon of cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg 2 tablespoons of water 1 tablespoon of butter
How you make it: Mix the first 4 ingredients in a baggie so you coat all the apples Cook the apple mixture in a saucepan with the water and butter over medium heat for 8-10 minutes or until the apples are tender.
This is what you end up with:
Scott described it as "apple pie without the crust".
That's about it for today, hope you had a great Monday! If you get a chance visit MckMama's blog, Stellan is not doing well and they could use all the prayers they can get!
Yesterday April,Lani and myself had a MoM's only day at the beach. Oh yes, you read that right, MoM's ONLY! It was heavenly! There were no diapers to be changed, no whining, no chasing kids around, nothing! Just three MoM's hanging out, and possibly drinking, at the beach.
All three of us have some nice red souvenirs from the beach, mine is by far worse than the other two, but is at least in a not so noticeable location. For those of you that don't know I am super white (almost UK white) and I burn almost instantly on the beach. I was really good though and was putting sunblock on the whole time we were there, the only problem is I missed a GIANT section on my back. Thankfully a total (creepy) stranger let me know I was turning into a lobster before it got way worse. This is what it looked like this morning...
Thank goodness for the aloe lotion that has the pain relief stuff already in it! Lani and April joked that we need to bring a tent for me next time...sigh......
Minus the sunburn it was a great day and I cannot wait to do it again (maybe next month?!). Hope you had an awesome weekend!
If you could have dinner with any 5 people, living or dead, who would they be and why?
1. Chef Eric Ripert
You may know him from Top Chef, he is an AMAZING chef, so therefore he would be making all 6 of us dinner and then would teach me how to make it.
2. Jackie Kennedy Onassis
She was a truly amazing woman and a complete role model of mine. She was elegant and classy and I would love to get some pointers from her. If you haven't you should read the book "What Jackie Taught Us", it's amazing.
3. Mary Magdalene
Mary Magdalene was a reformed sinner that devoted her life to Jesus. She was also the first person to see Jesus on Easter Sunday. She was truly amazing, and fascinating, I would love to her whatever she had to say. I know most people would pick Jesus, but I figure He's a pretty busy guy, and I'd love to have a woman's perspective :)
4. My friend Mitch
(Mitch I totally took this photo from your Facebook page, hope you don't mind!) I haven't seen Mitch since two Christmases ago and I miss him terribly!
5. Teresa from the Real Housewives of New Jersey I really want to learn how to flip a table like her while shouting nonsensical obscenities. We probably wouldn't do that in front of Mary or Jackie though.
I think we would have a pretty cool dinner party, don't you think? So who would your top 5 be? Play along at Multiples and More!
Jill found Scott's phone today and proceeded to walk around pretending to talk on it. Scott decided to call his phone from the house phone and Jill LOVED it! Here is some video...
I officially feel horrible! I completely forgot to post photos from PawPaw's birthday! PawPaw turned 65 yesterday (you know I had to put that there!). Jill even gave him TWO kisses, and Aaron ripped the hair off his legs. I attempted to make PawPaw on of his favorite cakes, but silly me tried to flip it out of the pan too soon and it fell apart. Thank goodness for Publix! They definitely saved the day with a super yummy (and sugar free!) chocolate cake. PawPaw actually just texted messaged me with "Ummmmmm yum! Good chocolate cake!" which I take to mean that it is just as yummy today as it was yesterday! The kiddos also got to have their first taste of ice cream yesterday (sugar free of course!) and they loved it! So without further adeui, here are yesterday's photos (and yes, I forgot to take a photo of the cake).... And as a side note, we tried coloring again, and Aaron ate some crayon. Sigh...his teeth were orange :( Good thing the crayons are non-toxic, right?
Today I tried coloring with the kids. I figure one of the questions at the next doctor's appointment will be if they can hold crayons and scribble so I decided to try it with them. It went fairly well, granted most of the scribbles are mine, the kids did add a couple of their own. Also, we only had two attempts at eating the crayon (Jill of course). Here are some pictures from our art project... Then after the art project we took all the kiddos outside to play (we were watching Jenn's boys today). Brandon is a catcher on his baseball team so Scott decided to throw the ball around a little with him and show him some pointers from when he used to catch. Aaron just chilled out in the backyard, it was obviously too hot to exert any effort. Jill had a blast in the backyard though and was fascinated by the guys playing ball. Here are some photos and a quick video...
Didn't I just write my list for last week???? Oh well...here we go again! This week I am thankful for...
Scott and all that he does for us!
Two beautiful kiddos that always manage to make me laugh!
PawPaw letting me make his birthday cake today! You're gonna love it!
Both sets of parents and all they do for us.
The nurse today telling me there is no possible way I could have had twins because I don't look like I could. Totally made my day, which makes me wonder if they just say that for that reason...hmmmm
Missy from Two Little Monkeys giving me play by play photos (and places to put them) for the Multiples post tomorrow! You're awesome!
The manager at Sweetbay who has twins and always asks me how my kiddos are doing whenever I'm in there. It's nice to go to a store like that.
Steve Perry and Rick Springfield's insane fan base! I tagged them both in my post yesterday and got a ton of extra traffic from their fans. Awesome!
Naptime, what a wonderful time.
The truck not hitting Jenn and I yesterday on our way home from Winter Garden Village. Seriously, we are not allowed to ride in cars together anymore (read last Thursday to find out why).
That's all I got right now. Hope you are having a great Thursday!
Yesterday we went on a playdate, the first in a long time, at Lani's house. The kiddos had a great time, and for once they were not in my lap the entire time/most of the time, well mainly because Ben was there. We also got to see the Pierce Peanuts (as I call them) Evan and Taylor. We haven't seen them in a while, and it is crazy how big they have gotten! Jill followed the "big kids" around and tried to do what they were doing, even tried to climb on the water table because you know, she's a big girl too. Aaron I think was just excited that there was a plethora of balls to play with, it's the simple things in life with him, I love it! Thanks again Lani for having us over! Here are some pictures from the playdate (notice none of my kids...I need to get better about taking pictures)
Since the kiddos played hard they fell asleep in the car on the 10 minute (if that) ride home and fought their way through lunch before going down for their nap. Come to find out Aaron ended up sleeping with some chicken nugget in his mouth...awesome....
After lunch we brought out the Cozy Coupes. Jill has already been playing with them since she discovered them in the hall, and when I say playing with I mean pulling out the floor board so that doesn't get in her way. Aaron likes his and can actually move around a little in it, but Jill....she LOVES this thing! Even this morning she ran right into it and sat there and finished her milk, like our dining room is a drive in movie theater! They are still getting used to being in the cars, and have had some problems with slipping under the car (awesome) but all in all they love having them out in the play area. All I can say is at least they really don't know how to move in them yet, otherwise I may have some holes in my walls.
Last night I had my first executive board meeting for GOMOTT and on the way there is was like God knew I needed some musical motivation! The classic rock station played my song, Journey's "Don't stop believing" and oh yes, I turned it way up and rocked out like none other. Now you may be wondering, why would a twenty something be rocking out to this band....Ok well if looks weren't enough (I mean come on mullets, perms, leather, it's a winning combination!), their song "Don't stop believing" was the theme song for the 2005 World Series Champion Chicago White Sox (notice the title on the photo)...
Steve Perry (um lead singer for all those that don't know, he's the guy with the super awesome mullet) was also present at every game in the series. He no longer has the magic mullet, maybe that's why we haven't won the series since then, just a theory people. Oh and they are coming to Amway Arena in Septemeber, and yes I actually called to try and win tickets. Back to the story, so I was rocking out to my song (people staring the whole time mind you) and then I switched to another station where they were playing....wait for it....Rick Springfield's Jessie's Girl.
UHHHHHHHHH another awesome song! Now I don't know many of Dr. Noah Drake, I mean Rick Springfield's songs, and I usually fast forward through him singing on General Hospital (where he also plays Eli Love the Austrailian bad by of rock and roll, who Dr. Noah Drake neurosurgeon briefly filled in for while Eli was recovering from brain surgery, I mean hello) but I love this song! But then, it get's better! How you ask? Ummm this station played "Don't stop believing"! Yeah! Seriously! In case you forgot that song was the theme for the 2005 World Series Champion Chicago White Sox....
So now that you know that I have a weakness for cheesey classic rock, I should probably go...haha
Hey all! Tomorrow at Multiples and More we are having an awesome giveaway thanks to Andrea at MOBI Technologies. Andrea sent both Lani and I a ton of products to try and review! I already blogged about the MobiCamAv, but I also got to try the Glomate and Universal Visor Mount for my GPS.
My GPS has a HUGE mount that goes with it and I've even gotten the notice from mall security saying that someone will probably break into my car to take my GPS since my mount is, well enormous. I had to laugh when I got the box for this mount because I thought there is no way this will fit my GPS, but sure enough it did! It's great too because you can hide it in your visor so nobody will see it. Another great feature is that it can easily move from car to car. We only have one GPS so we have to share it, and it's just a pain to have to move that massive mount everytime. You can get one for yourself at Mobi's website or Amazon.com or Target.
We also got to try their (Award winning!) Glomate. I haven't given this to the kiddos since the box said 2 and up, so naturally that translated to something I got to play with! I'm not sure if I will ever give this to them, it's AWESOME! It's also really bright, so I had to move it out of the kitchen when I charged it. An awesome feature with this is if your lights go out, this automatically kicks in. The charge on it lasts for 10 hours as well. This is going to be the perfect light source for hurricane season! You can also choose which color you want it to be, or you can have it cycle through all the colors if you are indecisive (like myself).
Don't forget about the giveaway tomorrow at Multiples and More! I'm not going to tell you what we are giving away, you'll have to wait and check it out tomorrow! Hope you're having a great Tuesday!
